A gateway pentium 3 desktop that when booting up the system the following error occurs with a blue screen:
a fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:c0251ca0 in VXD VXDLDR(08).

After taking the cancel button, the desktop appears with no icons.

Any idea's on how to resolve this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have the same thing, I think, only I have the following message: 0028:C0143A4 in VXD AVGCORE(01) +0008593C
Are you using AVG7 and did you do an update recently? I did. It appears that the latest update has messed things up.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Fatal Exceptions are mainly due to bad memory modules. Open the Console and reseat the Memory modules. If more than one, swap them around, or remove the first module facing the CPU and move forward the rest.

BIGALX58: You must post your own thread as what may work for CHRISDR, may not work for you. Open a new thread.

Meanwhile, uninstall and reinstall AVG, as the error message is clearly associated with AVG.

Try to restore a prior registry first: hold the ctrl key down on startup to get the startup menu. Then select the "command prompt" option.

At the prompt enter:

scanreg /restore and use your arrow key to select a prior started registry. Make sure they are not ver old, which can happen if scanregistry is not a part of your startups.

Try following the "startup troubleshooter" methods here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q188867

If you cannot even boot in Safe Mode without error, look for trouble with the ram:

Also see if you can boot to a Winfile shell following instructions here:

Thanks for your suggestions. After doing some further digging, I find that AVG admits that there was a problem with their last update and they're working on it. There was another update since, hopefully that will help matters.
In the meantime, I have been starting normally the last few times. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
