I have a two year old Toshiba Satellite, model 1755. It has a 700mHz celeron chip, 64mb ram, 10gb hard drive, using the WindowsME operating system.

I am considering installing additional memory (256mb) and replacing the ME OS with WindowsXP.

My question is, does this make sense?? Will the new OS function properly with such a slow chip? What type problems can I anticipate? Or shall I simply go for broke and buy a new computer?

    Thanks for your views.....

It will work but yes do take into account it is only a 700 celeron and you will find it nessecary to turn off all extra programs to minimalize the resources and cpu cycles needed..

Persaonlly I would hold off, stash some cash and get a newer tower or build because you will probably be doing so in the not to distant future anyway.

I very much appreciate your prompt and considered response. Of course, I suspected that I might be stretching the capabilities of this machine too far but I firmly believe that your advice has probably saved me many hours of frustration had I gone ahead with the plan.

    Thanks again.....
