I have a friend of mines laptop when you go to start it it comes up with a error message giving you the choice to go to windows setup or Windows Vista. If you click on windows setup it comes up with the following error message"File:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Windows\system32\winload.exe status 0xc0000001 Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt." Now if you click on Windows Vista it is fine but it does this everytime the laptop restarts. It is a Acer Aspire 5610z running Windows Vista Home Edition 32bit. Hopefully someone can assist me I have tried Repair and it says that it can not repair this computer. Could someone give me some guidance please?

The error message apparently points to a failed, incomplete or aborted Windows Setup (ie a Windows Installation) which was attempted at some point in the past. There will be an entry for it in a file called BOOT.INI, and this entry needs deleting.

Fire up the Windows Vista which works.
    Click Start > Run
Type msconfig and press enter or click 'OK'
    Click the Boot tab.
Highlight the line which contains the words Windows Setup
    Click the Delete button.
    Click 'OK'

Now restart Windows to see if that has worked.
