Whenver i try to run most programs (winamp, aol AIM, SPYBOT, etc.) it comes up with this error...

The WINMM.DLL cannot start. Check the file to determine the error.

I downloaded a new copy of the file and replaced it but nothing worked. Also, whenever i type into boxes like these on the net it takes forever and it just shows white with the cursor moving and then finally shows everything. But if i write in notepad or something it's fine. Any suggestions?

sounds like a CWS hijack from the symptoms

    Run CWshredder from
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
    then
go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I had already downloaded the dll file from that site and tried replacing it. It didn't work, it still says it's messed up. And the CW thing fixed my slowdown problem with my internet. Here is my hijack this log...

there is nothing in the hijackthis log that could account for your WINMM.DLL problems.

that dll is for low level audio etc & shouldn't affect spybot or the vast majority of programs

the most likely cause is a direct x error, what version are you running and have you tried a reinstall of dx

also try reinsatlling aim or winamp as they are the most likel cazuse of a corrupt version of the dll

Ok I tried to install directx and it wouldn't work, tried to reinstall winamp and aim but it wouldn't work. Keeps telling me that the dll files are corrupt.
