Hi cruz619sd

Welcome to TSG! :)

Please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This and UnZip it Do Not Unzip it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a folder and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

I was cleaning out my Program Files an got rid of allot of crap like toolbar progams, search bars, etc.... I came across a xerox file with nwiia folder that i can't get rid of, access denied prompt. I researched it and found out it was a hack progam. Is there a way of getting rid of this without doing it thru safe mode?

 You have quite a collection of of nasties there.

Please do the following:

I highly recommend you get rid of Kazaa. It is full of spyware and the source of many problems. A lot of the problems you have now are from the garbage that comes bundled with Kazaa and is installed on your PC without your knowledge.

Go here and get KazaaBegone and run it to get rid of Kazaa:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3446

Click here to download CWShredder. Close all browser windows,UnZip the file, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished restart your computer.

To help prevent this from happening again, I strongly recommend you install the folowing patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/ms03-011.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS00-075.asp

*Note: The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates"

Go here and download Adaware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest referencefiles.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.

Then go here and download Spybot Search & Destroy.

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press Online and Search for Updates .

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click Check for Problems and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another Hijack This log and we'll get rid of what's left.

Well if you insist on having Kazaa you're on your own and you will have to learn to live with the garbage and problems that come with it. It will not work without the spyware.

I was continuing to clean up my program files and I came across a Xerox folder with a file named nwwia in it that I can't delete. Tried to do it in safe mode, but it just came back. Researched it, and the only fix I can see is using the MS Diasable Windows File Protection Tweak... that's the only positive replies I found on the net. I don't feel comfortable disabling the file protection feature. Is there any other way to get rid of this folder/file and what does it really do and affect?

#9 ·
Ignore the xerox folder it's apart of windows and should not be touched.

and yes this is realplayer download & tool bar, if you don't want it uninstall via addd/remove programs in control panel

same with system soap, uninstall it

In addition to uninstalling Realbar and System Soap Pro, run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

This is the scan after I deleted the files in safe mode. There was no System Soap folder, but there was a MSSoap folder that I didn't delete. It had: Binaries subfolder, Resources under the binaries subfolder, and 1033 subfolder under the binaries.
There was no updater folder, but there was a C:\Program Files\Common Files\UPDMGR folder.
It had several folders in it including .dll's and .exe extensions.
I did not delete that either.

Should I go back and delete those two or leave them?

I also noticed that when I restarted XP and got to the user select screen, the mouse and keyboard didn't work. I had to power down and power back up and it worked fine. I tried it twice to see if it was just something I might have done or what... but it did the same, restart XP and no mouse or keyboard, power down and back up and it comes back.
