I have been battleing with some malware on my computer. Started using BitDefender to protect my system (XP) and at first it found a lot of baddies but it wiped those out and now it finds none.

However, the problem still remains. What happens is the internet works for about 5 minutes and then stops, saying 'Page cannot be displayed', so I go through the IE diagnostics and it says it resets the winsock catalog because there was a problem with it and that I have to restart to take affect on the system. But when I reset the problem repeats itself.

Basically I have the same problems as layed out by this guy:
    http://forums.techguy.org/networking/634488-solved-cannot-browse-web-winsock.html

Internet work for a while then not, can still use things like MSN and skype, but no internet through mozilla or IE.

I had a 'computer guy' look at it and he suggested reformating the drive so I did that but I wanted to keep some files and this lead to me being here (aka reinfected). So unlike in the other forum post I cannot go back to a restore point.

Perhaps I will try the Winsock XP fix utility.

I have also emailed Bitdefender with hopes that they can help as well.
