I picked up this nasty thing and my current tools aren't deleting it. Was hoping someone might look at the logfile from HJT and advise. System info follows log file. Any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    AdAware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download
and while you are at the adaware site download and install http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml
and run it before the main adaware scan and follow it's directions
    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least SE1R26 25.01.2005 or a higher number/later date

Set up the Configurations as follows:

    General Button
    Safety:
    Check (Green) all three.

    Click on "Proceed"

Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

    Click on "Scan Now"

Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

Download and install the Micro$oft antispyware BETA from http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx and let it fix anything it finds (when it finds things, please quarantine them rather than delete just in case as it is a beta and occasional False positives happen)

First press file and check for updates and then run it

Recent tests suggest that a combination of Adaware & M$AS removes approx 80% of spywares/Adwares, much higher than any other combination

then post a new hjt log

I did as you said as well as a few other things besides using MS beta spyware remover. A nice tool if you have XP, but still didn't get it all even after it said it was deleted.

I did most of the scans in Safe Mode as well as a HJT to see. I kept getting the ISTsvc.exe showing up until about the 3rd or 4th try. After everything was cleared out of the program files and registry, I did have a bookmark show up in the favorites and the same icon showed up in the start menu.

It was something like SportsBetting.com or to that effect. I deleted the shortcuts and restarted the computer a few times now, opening the browser, surfing a bit and restarting again to see if I get any of the apps to show from somewhere, but it seems that they are finally gone.

What worked was running everything thru Safe Mode (with Restore off), starting with MS Spyware tool, then the Ad-Aware then do a scan with HJT.
BTW, going to http://www.hijackthis.de/ and entering in my logfile with their online tool was very helpful. It allows you to see all on one page what is a threat and what isn't.

After the third go round it finally seemed to get them all save a few items like a cookie and the shortcuts I mentioned. Just wanted to say thanks for the direction.

    Regards,

    Greg
