I write a lot of research papers usings select and copy from web pages, then copying to a Word document.

Apparently some bug has developed in this transfer process because I get this popup:

    (I translate from the Dutch)
Winword has caused an error in MS09.dll.
    Winword will now close.
If this remains a problem, restart the computer.

Well, it has and I have.

Now I have deadlines looming and have this to contend with--

any suggestion will be joyfully considered.

Locate ALL occurrences of "normal.dot" on your PC.

There may be more than one, there has to be at least one.

    Rename them to "normal.old"
The file is the default template that loads everytime you start Word with a blank document. It gets corrupted and that error is but one of the symptoms.

Normal.dot may be marked as a system file, so make sure you are able to view them before searching. If you cannot find it, then there is a problem with your search or ability to see system files, it must exist.

many files were listed when I searched for files:
    normal.dot
They all seem to be blank templates for word.
How do I rename these files?

You must not have Word open when you try, as naturally it would be using the file and prevent you from changing it..

If needed, boot into safe mode to do it, though I have not found that to be needed.

And yes, normal.dot is a blank template for Word, when it gets corrupted Word gives many problems, including your one.
