WinXP for Gaming?

    Buying new machine ... gaming a priority. Will Windows XP be as smooth a system for running current games as 98? Also, what about my older games that specify 95/98 but never anticipated XP? Safer to stick with some version of 98 or maybe 2000 ... if so, which is considered optimum for gaming? A lot of questions--Thanks!
