When I boot I end up with a black screen with just a mouse cursor that can still be moved. Safemode is the same.
    I tried:
    -repaired windows...
-I swapped out the video card...
    -chkdsk'ed...
-I ran geek squad diagnostics which passed...
    -hard drive test good....

I haven't tried reformatting yet. I really hate using that for all problems. It seems like its just hung up on something. Does anyone know what could be going on here? What other useful tips I can use?

I had the same problem last week. It was caused by my computer accidentally being turned off during a Windows Update session. I also tried Repair Install and finally had to do a complete reformat and reinstall. Do you have any way of transferring files from your disk?

Yes, this is 1 of 3 PC's. I can save the files I need. I am just tired of always having to reformat to fix what seems like a minor glitch. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I used most of them already but there was a few I hadn't tried yet.

No luck. I reformatted and the PC is working like a champ. Easy works.
