Wiping a hard-drive

    What is the best way of wiping every single bit of information off a hard drive. Because I want to wipe all information off an old PC of mine apart for the necessary operating system software(or if needs be I still have the CD for it).
    How do I tell the difernce between what i have created and waht was originally on the computer.
