Hi, I'm trying to connect two computers together with an ethernet cable but both keep saying there's limited or no connectivity. They're both running XP Pro SP3. I've used the network connection wizard but that doesn't help either.
I did the ipconfig thing and here's the results. Anyone got any ideas.
Thanks,
Mark.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. I carried out your instructions and it has solved the connectivity problems. I can now see shared folders on the other computer but when I try to send a file from one computer to another it gives me an error message saying access denied.
Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents:
You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD.
1)Filename : FIXANON.REG
2)Save as type: all files
3)Encoding: ANSI
If you do not change it from txt type to All files type, then the file will actually be FIXANON.REG.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]

Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question.
Hi, thanks for the help. That's got it working good enough for what I need. In my network places I can see PC2 from PC1 and transfer files from one to the other using PC1 but not the other way round. I can't see any of the shared folders on PC1 from PC2, although this doesn't really matter. I tried turning off windows firewall but this made no difference.
What I want to do know is let PC2 connect to the internet through PC1 which has a wireless connection to a Netgear DG834G Router.
Cheers
Mark

If you want to also share an Internet connection, you have to go with a different configuration.
In that case, I'd configure the connections for automatic addressing again on both machines, then bridge the wireless connection with the NIC that connects to the secondary machine.
Bridging two network connections:
Open the Network Connections folder from the Start Menu, Settings.
Select the first connection to be used in the bridge and highlight it by left clicking on it.
Holding the Ctrl key, select the second connection to be used in the bridge by left clicking on it.
Right click on one of the two highlighted connections and select Bridge Connections.
Thanks, I've tried what you suggested, changing back to automatic ip's but the I just get the limited or no connectivity thing on both pc's.
When I've got both pc's set to static ip everthing works perfect and I can transfer from one to the other and vice-versa. I tried to bridge the connection between the NIC and the wireless but this just caused the connection between both pc's to breakdown.
Here's some ipconfig info from when both pc's are set to static ip's

You didn't setup ICS, that's what the link I provided was supposed to show you how to do!
