I have a laptop that is windows 98. I took it to Verizon yesterday to see if I could get a
wireless card. They tried, but said the software won't run on windows 98 & I need a newer
computer. Does anyone know if there is any wireless card I can use? I want wireless because only dial up is available where I live. I don't want to use a router-I want to be able to take it with me to our boat as well. Or do I have to go ahead & buy a new computer to do this? I appreciate any help!

can you explain a bit further

Are you after a 3G card to use with the mobile phone network
Rather than a wireless 802.11 standard which is used with Routers and in cafe's airports etc

Oh I hate to display my ignorance! I want one of the cards that you stick in the side that is like a credit card & you use that for internet access. I do not plan to buy a router. Does that answer the question? In other words, the internet access comes from that mobile service & the reason I went to Verizon is that is who I have my cell phone service through.
Is my computer too obsolete to have that kind of service?

If you mean mobile phone networks providing you with wireless internet, then i suspect you will not find drivers easily unless you find something like a 2004 mobile phone with 3g that can be used as a modem over usb, something that age should have 98se drivers.

To my knowledge, the "Verizon" wireless card for mobile internet service will only run with Windows XP and Windows Vista.

in the 'early days' with my ol' motorola 120,
got a cable to go from the cell to the serial plug,
    was nice,
anywhere i could make a cell call,
i could be on the 'net
    but w-h-h-e-e-e-w-w-w-w,
    talk about minutes disappearing!!!
didn't have any 'unlimited' accounts then either,
    let's see,
    30 days in a month X 30 min a day = 900 min a month,
    most accounts then were .......
never mind, don't even want to think about wasted $$$$$$$,
