I've been having this problem for several months now and I've tried most of the "solutions" on this forum and many others to no success. This casually varies from day to day and even over the course of a day, sometimes I can go a week at a time without any problem and then other times I'll spend an entire weekend not getting any luck. Essentially my wireless connection will randomly cut out with severely different periods of time inbetween, can happen every few hours or every 10 minutes and as said on different days. Most of the time I have to restart my PC or power cycle to get it to start to work again but also some times It'll automatically reconnect after 5-10 seconds or a few minutes.

As I'm sure you've heard a thousand times this is extremely frustrating when browsing the web or trying to download a large file and constantly being interrupted. My kids who live downstairs and have their own PC's in their room don't have this problem, one is using a wired connection and the other a wireless. As I've stated it only started a few months ago and I've had this PC for a year and a half and the router nor the PC have not changed position in the house or had any drastic changes to either of them.

We're using a BT HomeHub (2.0 I believe) and the Wireless Adapter in my PC is a Atheros AR9285.

Just to save you some time I've done the following.
    - Reformatted PC.
    - Updated Router + Adapter Firmware/Software.
    - Tried changing the channel on the router several times over the course of a month.
    - Removing the wireless adapter and antenna and trying them in another PC.
    - Being sure to blow any dust of the adapter and router.
    - Disabling and enabling other network adapters including Hamachi.
    - Tried enabling/disabling DCHP and IPV6.
    - Changing, reseting and defaulting the DNS.
    - Moving the router right next to the PC with a result of excellent reception.
    - Followed several window hotfixes and registery fixed related to DCHP.
    - Some others I may have forgotten.

I recently reformated the PC after doing the above to make sure that I hadn't accidentally somehow ruined the adapter further.
Below is my PC information, a print from ipconfig /all and a report from XIRRUS Wifi Inspector.

As I stated nobody else in the house has this problem and I rang up the ISP and they didn't have much offer on hand bar the general "update it, turn it on and off again" lark that is something I've been told to do several times with no luck.

Any and all help is appreciated.

what happened - did it work in the other PC
    what does this mean

the results do not appear to be a normal router IP address
    IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 217.42.59.18
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 217.47.23.144
    DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

can we see another working PCs ipconfig /all - just to be sure of the settings we are seeing

have you tried setting a fixed DNS using something like google open dns servers 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Google public DNS

    Google public DNS
    http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Theres also a link on how to setup those DNS IP address
    http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

can we see when its working and then repeat ALL the tests when it disconnects

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

    ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
    to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
    Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

    Type the following command
    Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
    Post back the results
    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
control key + V to paste

    Type the following command
    Ping google.com
    Post back the results
    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
control key + V to paste

    Type the following command
    Ping 209.183.226.152
    post back results
    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
control key + V to paste

The wireless adapter worked fine in the other PC and when I say changing the DNS, I mean as the instructions you gave below, I tried several fixed and open dns servers from several different official sites and a few supposed instant fix ones.

Not quite sure how to change my router's IP address to be "normal" it's not being proxied or anything.

Regarding your above message I'm not quite sure if I fully understand you but I haven't changed or edited the results in any form or way, Just got it to print it out while connected to the normal adapter, then changed to the Iphone tether to post. The PC was connected to the home wireless network at the time of the ipconfig.

very confused now as we are seeing lots of different IPS
    post #1
post #3 EDIT - ignore as thisis your sons IP results
    post #5
so the default gateway has changed - so not sure what is going on there on a BT home hub, are you connecting to a different wireless network ?

your xirrus only showed 1 network

often routers use a private address
    192.168.0.x - 192.168.255.x
    10.0.0.x.- 10.255.x.x
    172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x

so a little confused here now

also the pings to google and the IP works and shows you are connected

as everyone else is working - do you have a way to save the results and copy to your sons working machine to post here - rather than tether the iphone which maybe changing everything

Here's the IPconfig from about 5 minutes ago when it wasn't letting me connect to the internet. Unedited and copied to my son's PC then pasted.

I think the different gateway was from the Iphone, apologies.

    me too

    thats different again
So we can ignore post #5 as it was part of the iphone tethering

its like its connecting to different wireless networks - but its not as we have the same default gateway

that leaves us with the same default gateway - so it is the same network

just out of interest - if you goto http://www.whatsmyip.org/ what does it list as your IP

if i use those two IPs - it comes up as BT net - so thats a public IP and not a router IP

What are you connecting the wireless to again - the BT home hub or one of BTs access network they have
whats the exact model of your BT home hub ?

can we see another xirrus screen shot

It looks to me that your router's address is 192.168.1.254 and you have it set to pass through the public IP configuration. Can you actually get internet access on multiple computers at the same time? Seems to me that you shouldn't be able to. Why is it set this way?

In addition to this your post # 1 Xirrus shows a signal that is too weak for a reliable (or "robust" as the Xirrus user manual says) connection.

Why do the wireless adapters in those two computers (Beastinator and Dave PC) have the same MAC (Physical) Address (D8-5D-4C-B0-46-FE)?

    My IP: 86.156.251.251

On the box it just says BT HomeHub 2.0 no detailed information given on the back or on the actualy router itself.

Not sure about the MAC address thing, I was copying and pasting the IP config pastes around alot I may have accidentally copied part of my one there. Apologies.

I've ordered an RJ45 Ethernet Cable which should solve it.

BT provide a service to all BT customers , wireless hotspots using the BT Hub to supply that service
    https://www.bt.com/wifi/secure/index.do?s_cid=con_FURL_btfon
I dont know how that works - except you have the choice to set that up on your router - i wonder if this is what you are connecting to - although I can only see one wireless signal

however, reading this - http://btsupport.custhelp.com/app/a...sion/L3RpbWUvMTMyMTkxNDQ5Ny9zaWQvbmFueGhJSms= its called BT_FON

I found this BT Fon option and turned it on, Then I didn't see any new networks show up on my normal network or using Xirrus or any go away. I left in on for a while and it was still cutting out every 15 minutes so I turned it back off.

Bar the new Ethernet Cable I'm still clueless as to how to find a permanent solution.
