I've followed various things about solving my 'wireless network state = media disconnected, ip address set to 0.0.0.0.' I've done ipconfig/renew. Now it's telling me this =

    (After sorting the DNS stuff)

Registration of the DNS resource records for all adapters of this computer has b
een initiated. Any errors will be reported in the Event Viewer in 15 minutes..

    Windows IP Configuration

No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media di
    sconnected.
An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection : The DHC
P client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network. The l
ocal interface will be disabled until the DHCP client can obtain a new address.

    Windows IP Configuration

    Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : acer-77636ef25d
    Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
    Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
    IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
    WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

    Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Eth
    ernet NIC
    Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-C0-9F-F4-B0-40

    Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network
    Connection
    Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-13-CE-6D-6A-87
    Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
    DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255

The LAN doesn't matter right? But do I just register the DNS thing again and hope it finds the right ip address?
I thought I was almost there, so don't want to mess around too much anymore!

Are you connected to a router or a modem?

IP addresses of 0.0.0.0 are normally caused by one of the following.

    Diagnosis:
    1. DHCP Service not running.
    2. Duplicate IP address on the network.
    3. Bad NIC card drivers.
    4. Defective NIC hardware.

    Resolution:
    1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.
    2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, reboot the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.
    3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.
    4. Replace the Network Interface Card.

There has also been at least one case where switching from using Dell WLAN to XP’s WZC resolved the issue.
