Ok. I am not sure what to do because I recently bought a Belkin Router to turn my Time Warner Business Class Internet service into wireless internet. It worked great for two days, but suddenly, stopped working. When I connect to it with my laptop, I get an error message that says that the Wireless adaptor lost internet connection. I then clicked on that balloon, and it reset the wireless adaptor. Still, no luck!! I also have unplugged the router and modem for about 20 seconds, plugged it back in, let it reset and tried it again. Still no luck.

I have limited access on my computer to administrative settings because it is still owned by my school, but not for much longer. I have also found out that my DNS does change on my computer. I do not think it has anything to do with it, but thought I would pass along the information I have figured out during my three hours of researching the problem.

Any help here?? My daughter wants to take the wireless router back and get a new one.

    Thanks!!

My daughter didn't have the patience to wait for an answer, so she took the wireless router back to the store and got another one exactly like the old one. As soon as she plugged it in and installed it, the wireless router immediate began to do what the other one was doing.

Any suggestions? I am wondering if it is even possible for the wireless router to not be compatible with Time Warner Cable Business Class Internet Service?

What modem or modem/router do you have? If it is a modem/router what LAN IP subnet does it use?

Thanks for your help, TerryNet. It is a Belkin router. It is the second router now, and is doing the same thing. Today, it's been absolutely fine all day, until right now. I got an error message on my computer just now that says "The DNS server is not responding" I just don't understand how it's been fine all day, and now it is back to doing what it was doing last night originally.

Go to the Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

Type in the box ipconfig/all and press enter. Then right click in the box and press Select All and press Enter on the keyboard. Come back here and press CTRL and V together in a post and it should copy what you saw.

Side note, did you get a Static IP?

OK, so your modem/router combo is using 172.20.10.x subnet, which will not conflict with the Belkin router (which I assume is using 192.168.2.x).

For both a good wireless connection and for when it has a problem show an ipconfig /all and attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

What gets me is why is a private IP address being subnetted....

Can you confirm the model number of the modem please.

Also do you have mini cell tower from your cellphone provider?

No, I do not have a mini-cell phone tower. I do run on a hotspot as a back up since it hasn't been working properly. Sometimes I thought it started having problems as soon as it showed up in my wireless list, although it was already connected to the wireless router. Hope that makes sense, but last night, I didn't have the hotspot on at all when it started.

I will take a screenshot of it as it is having a problem. My luck, the problem won't happen today. But, the past two days it has been starting at about 7 pm, and continuing until I give up and go to bed.

I don't really know what you mean by "subnetted" but I went and looked up the model number. You asked for the model number of the modem. The stickers aren't real clear on the modem, but if you meant the wireless router, which is where the problem is at, we think, then I have that. The model number on the wireless router is F9K1001V4.

There seems to be a problem with the internet sometimes too. My daughter said when the router cuts out, then she plugs the Ethernet straight into her laptop and it works, but off and on. So, I am wondering if Time Warner Cable should come out and check her internet connection. I will call them and have them check out the line, because my dad seems to think maybe someone in my apartment building is cutting into our internet service.

But, there is a DC: 042908 on the modem, and another number U10C020. I don't know if either of them is the model number for the modem, but them are the only numbers on the modem besides addresses.

Please let me know if you come up with anything, but I want to really thank you guys for trying to help me because my daughter and I are both in school online and really need our internet to get our assignments in. You guys are angels.

I didn't collapse anything. Let me know if this is what you needed though. I see all of my recent connections in there and don't use some of them anymore. anyways, let me know.

That shows an apparently good IP configuration for a wireless connection to a Belkin router. Next time it happens try these tests. Like the ipconfig /all the ping commands are in a Command prompt and the results can be posted here the same way.

    ping 192.168.2.1

    ping 172.20.10.1

    ping 8.8.4.4

    ping yahoo.com

May also still be helpful to see an Xirrus screen shot.

Well, I want to thank all of you for your help with this situation. Although I am still not completely clear on how to do a Xirrus screen shot, I want to let you all know that I called Time Warner Cable to come out today and figure this out. I didn't want my daughter's grades to suffer, and she would kill me if I let this problem to continue. Time warner cable technician told me that the cable we were using didn't have enough connections on the inside of it. There was six connections, but the one we were using only had four. Also, another problem was there was a wire with a short in it. Although that wire did not go to our internet service, that problematic wire could be sending signals and interfering with our internet service. He replaced the wire and the Ethernet cord we were using, and it's looking like the problem is solved. Hmmmm!!!

I HONESTLY appreciate all of your help though....

    Lisa :)
