All of the sudden the wireless signal is either extremely weak (can't even connect) or just gone, while the wired connection to the router is fine. All I know is it's a Linksys router and nothing was done to it, no power hits or anything. They've taken the encryption down and it still either is weak or not there when it comes to wireless. I can't look at the computer and get specific details as it's not where I am, this is all I was told...any ideas? Their router is about two years old, has it just maybe gone bad?

Power cycle the router and the modem a few times. The off cycle should last for 10 minutes or more.

Okay, I'll tell him to do that, he doesn't go back home until Monday. I know he tried rebooting the modem and router already, no 10 minutes shut off though, hopefully it'll help, thanks.

The next thing to try is note all important router settings, reset to factory default settings, reconfigure.

The router may be failing, especially if it is normally on 24/7.
