Hi all.As the title says I can't play mp3 files anymore. At first I thought it was a problem with Soundblaster because wmp11 did'nt seem to be able to play any files but it turns out wma files still play okay.Media Classic Player still plays all files as normal.Any ideas? Thanks

I'm not sure which WMP I've got but I was just going to post a similar question. My WMP will now ONLY rip WMA from my CDs even if I check the MP3 option.

Why is this happening? Did I select something somewhere by mistake?

    Thanks!

I have been doing some research and my pc has been infected with wma a variant of WMA/TrojanDownloader.GetCodec.gen trojan.Aparrently the virus gets bundled into downloaded mp3's which then, when played take you to a site(mine was Hasvideo.net)supposedly to get codecs to play the file.I'm not sure why the mp3's themselves wouldn't play but I gather the virus managed to screw them up somehow. As far as I could tell just by googling the mp3's can't be cleaned so I decided to bite the bullet and deleted all my music(it spread to most of my files),then ripped a couple of cds to mp3 and what do you know they play sweet as.I guess we will have to be even more careful what we download. If anybody has had this same problem and found a way to get rid of the virus without deleting the actual files please let us know.

if you want to convert to mp3 just use format factory instead.
