My Compaq presario laptop which is about 4-5 years old but like new, ran great until my kid did "nothing" to it and it crashed, i tried everything and resorted to re-installing windows XP, i also downloaded on another pc and installed SP 2. When i plug in either my wired or wireless network adapter cards, i get the following error and can't seem to get it to coreect. The error is:

    The device"Texas Instrument PCI-1410
cardbus controller" has detected a Cardbus card in its slot, but the firmware on
the system is not configured to allow the cardbus to controller to be run in
cardbus mode. The operaing system will currently accept only...." the rest of
the error is cut off, I am totally frustrated.

Any suggestions? I downloaded and installed any updates from the HP/Compaq site. I notice on the web that this PC often has this error after a re-install but can't find any solutions to it, only people trying to solve the problem.

If you can help me out that would be great, other than no net the PC is working as good as ever. The light on the adapters does not come on.

Hmm this might be a driver problem. Could you provide a screenshot of device manager.

Have you installed the motherboard chipset drivers?
failure to load the motherboard chipset drivers can/will cause issues like this

I hope you guys can help, I thought it might be a driver, but I can only find the one which is already installed, I have tried to uninstall and re-install, to no avail. I will try to attach a screenshot, but you'll have to tell me how, it is not that PC that I am on and can't figure how to save it to post. It does detect the TI 1410 cardbus controller under the PCMCIA adapters

I re-installed windows, I am not sure what motherboard chipset drivers I would need, I installed a bios update that I downloaded from Compaq/HP, after it wouldn't work on re-install, but that didn't work, is what you are referencing something different?

    You could also try
    Updating this reg key ---

    1. Start Regedit.exe
    2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters key
    3. Click Edit -> New -> DWORD Value
    4. Type Value name DisableIsaToPciRouting and keep value of 0
    5. Reboot your PC
