My daughter has a Dell laptop with Win 8.1 this has been broken many times and she's returned it (she bought a 2 year warranty which is good) it's needed the harddrive replaced at least twice. That's not the problem, but the last 2 times it came back from being fixed, it's been in AIRPLANE MODE. this happened the last time it came back from getting fixed, and I googled it and she tried various things, even taking the battery out and waiting and putting it back in. It won't connect to WiFi and says it's in Airplane mode. The last time she kept trying to use it and a few days later it started working okay. This time, I was googling this and found some complicated answers, going in to settings, etc. and also found a lot of other people who were having the same problem and couldn't figure out how to change it. I don't know much about Windows 8, even just getting around in it, I still have Windows 7 and this is what I like.
Is there a simple way to turn off Airplane Mode, or even disable it? There is very little chance she will be taking a plane, or bringing the laptop with her on one, and I think a lot of planes now allow the use of WiFi so it isn't even needed.
Oh, her warranty was up in Aug and she returned it the last time the end of July (it needed the hd replaced for the 2nd time) and they gave her a hard time about this because it was almost up and she'd returned it to have it fixed 2 times before. So, she can't call them and ask how to get it out of Airplane Mode. Seems like there should be a setting, or it would reset to default when the battery is taken out and put back in.
From what she's said, when she tries to go online, it says it can't it's in Airplane Mode. I found something online that said it should still connect to the Wi Fi even in Airplane Mode... I don't know, my Android phone has Airplane Mode and sometimes gets on it by mistake, that's all I know about it.
    Thanks...

Most Dell laptops have a physical switch which turns the WiFi adapter On or Off. When the switch is off and there is no wired connection to the Internet, the laptop shows to be in Airplane mode. If the switch if On and the laptop is still in Airplane mode, the WiFi adapter could be disabled. From Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections look at the status of the WiFi adapter; if it shows as 'Disabled', just right click on it and select 'Enable'.
