Sometimes when I have a word document open, that came in from the net, and I try to save as the program locks up and the title bar at the top of the screen flashes on and off. I have to close word and retry. some times this works and other times I have to reboot. Any idea what is going on?
I have used spybot and there in no virus on the computer.

From the net means as an attachment to a e-mail.
Will try the other ideas and report back.

I am running Word 2000 under XP. About a month ago I started experiencing the same problem. I routinely receive attachments, RTF and DOC, which I open by clicking the active link in the Eudora message. The file opens ok, but when I try File/Save As the Word entry on the task bar begins to blink to indicate it need attention. By clicking the blinking task one or more times I can get the Save As dialogue box to open and perform the save. More clicking on the task bar entry brings back the main Word document window. This behavior is absent on files which are opened from within Word as opposed to by file association.

I got the problem to repeat. It seems it is related to IE-6. When I minimize IE the save as works right. As long as IE is maximum it will not save and the title bar keep flashing.
Anybody got a idea of how to make this go away.

Just an idea.....

Do you have Norton System Works installed on the system?

I've seen problems with the office plug-in.

Launch Norton
Options
Norton Anti-Virus
MISC
Uncheck Enable Office Plug-in

Again just an idea.

I disabled the Office plug-in and the symptom went away. Turns out the symptom will show up whenever a document is opened by Word through the file association process, but not with a normal open after program start. I reported the problem to Symantec and will post any workaround if one is offered.
Milo, Thanks for your help.

I also got the same results. Looks like the office plug is the problem.
Thanks to all.
Problem fixed.
