Hope someone can help me with this. When I open Word 2000, it opens in a Boca Raton ICG Font with a 200 pt. size, color orange. Of course I can change these settings back to the original, but they will not stay. When I open the program again, it is the same thing. Also, the program will not let me paste a graphic and add a typed caption. I would like to have Word 2000 open as it should. Is there some way to restore all settings to what they should be? I tried using the default setting option, but when I opened the program again, I had the same problem. Help, please!!!

    Thank you...

Search for and delete all instances of "normal.dot", using Windows Explorer.
Word must not be open at the time.

It is a hidden/system file and you need to enable the viewing of these or you will not find it/them. At least one such file must exist, if you cannot find it then you have not enabled the viewing of hidden and system files.

Normal.dot is the default template, and it gets corrupted. When Word runs and does not find the file, it recreates a new clean one with the standard defaults.

Thank you for your response. I could not locate any normal.dot files even though I opened the 'hidden files and folders'. I'm not a very advanced user, but do have some basics. Is there an easy way to locate those files?

Once again, I appreciate your help...

In Word, you should be able to go under TOOLS --> OPTIONS --> FILE LOCATIONS and look to see what the path is to the User Template directory. This is the directory containing your Normal.dot file.

Mine is located in the following directory

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
