I was working on a Word document last Thursday, which was saved inside a sub-folder. When I returned to my PC today, the sub-folder was gone, as was the Word document.

Nothing turns up when I search for the file, and it's not in the Recycling Bin.

It still appears in the Recent Word Documents list, with the correct file path, but when I click on it, it says "The directory name is not valid."

Is there any hope of recovering this file? Why did it disappear?

I've never had this happen in 20 years of computing.

Do you use File History...? If not then this may be the moment to start. File History is better than sliced bread....:)

Have you tried opening the file from within Word..? What I mean is open Word and then in the Recent Documents list click on the file and see what message Word gives you.

    Go to https://www.voidtools.com/downloads/
Then down load and install Everything 1.4.1 Beta.
Once it is installed, open it, type in the name of this missing subfolder or file and see where you saved it.
