Hello!

I have just upgraded to Windows XP Home with me as the Administrator & 2 other Limited Users.

When I open either a Word or Excel file, I get a message saying that the file is being used by me & do I want to make a copy. I just click on OK & all is well, but why should I get this message?

Is there a way to stop the message from appearing?

Happy New Year to you all!

Best wishes.

Although this is a fairly easy question, you should always include the exact error message to make it that much quicker and easier to solve.

Hello again!

Thanks for your swift responses.

Endemix, the exact error message is: (in the title bar) Microsoft Word. A yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark, followed by: C:\...\filename... is being used by Tim Cutler. Do you want to make a copy? Then there are 2 buttons which are OK & Cancel.

RandyG, yes - I installed Office to the default location & could not find any help at th esite you suggested.

I hope the above will help you to help me.

Best wishes.

It's because you have multiple users set up and word being helpful wants to prevent other users trying to access the file at the same time.

the only way I've found around this is to close other user accounts first

Hello again,

I think I have solved the problem by Reinstalling Office on top of itself.

Thanks for all your help.

Best wishes to you all.
