OK that doesn't really clarify it because I didn't contact you on any email address I just replied to the thread. You would have received an email notification but since you started the thread with the Nelli0 account I would assume that's the email address the notification would come in on. The other one is from 2008 and may or may not still be valid.

Given that I’m on the cusp of 80 I don’t want to spend money unnecessarily so I’ll probably go with Open Office. At least trying to work it all out will keep my lockdown brain active!

BTW, I am on the cusp of 70. Out of curiosity I have tried many alternatives to Microsoft Office including StarOffice, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, and FreeOffice. I have been using Microsoft Word for 25 years now and will continue to use it as long as possible.

If you insist on trying something else I would go with FreeOffice. It is closer to MS Office than OpenOffice. Also OpenOffice has not being updated since 2016. LibreOffice which was derived from the code for OpenOffice eight years ago is much better supported. LibreOffice v7.0.2 was released October 2020.

I have three different versions of Office (2007, 2010, 2019) on my computers. I have had no problems with any of them with Windows 10 20H2 or any earlier releases for Windows 10.

It would be premature to just dump Office 2007 because you are having a problem.

1. It is possible the default Word template is corrupted.

• The easiest way to fix that is to simply delete it. Word will then just recreate it.
• Location of normal.dot or normal.dotm word default template file:
  C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
• Note the AppData folder is hidden so you will have to unhide it

2. The Office 2007 installation may be corrupted
If the above does not work you can try repairing or reinstalling it

Thank you MisterEd. I am very reluctant to even attempt to repair Word and wouldn’t know where to start. I’m worried that I might mess up the whole thing. I’ve seen something called Apacheoffice so, currently I’m trying to find reviews on that one. I appreciate the time and trouble you took to reply. Thank you.
