Both MS Word and MS Excel 2007 take upwards of 10 seconds to load a file from Windows Explorer. I double click on the file in Win Explorer, Excel opens, but then the file doesn't actually appear for like 10 to 15 seconds. Curious if it is an add on, a slow hard drive *its a Sata 7200RPM drive* or something else. Has anyone had this kind of an issue with Office 2007 opening files from Win Explorer?

Your AV and other protection programs just may be part if not all of this.
What AV and protection programs are you using?

Also, these files are on the local drive and not on a networked shared drive?

Also remember that when opening from Windows Explorer, the program itself must load and it does take time to do that. So 10-15 seconds to load the program and then a file, in my opinion is not slow.

MS Security Essentials

Even when I open the file from Excel, it still takes 10/15 seconds to load the file. I'm not sure if Excel is freezing up during this time or not, but it is definitely noticeable.

What AV and other protection programs are you running?

How full is the drive?
How much RAM?

See above. Running MSE, 4GB RAM, 15% full. I think it has to do with how its being fragmented. De fragmenting seems to help improve read speeds.
