Why are you continue to run the wizard?
Just open the Libre Writer program

Once the newly installed Libre Office is installed, how do I get the office files I have in office 2010 into Libre's office writer program? I have about 286 files

I'll refer you to Triple 6's post as I'm not familiar with the new way MS Office files are saved by the subscription versions.

    Not understanding.

Do you want to convert those MS Office files to a Libre Office file format?
    or
Just open the files in Libre Office?

You don't have to put the current files anywhere to read or edit them in Libre Office.
Simplest way to open one, open Libre Writer, drag and drop the document into the open window.

More complicated way, change the default app for opening those files from MS Office ( or whatever ) to Libre writer ( or Libre *whatever* )

Yes or no, can you get Libre Writer open?

If yes, do a File Open and browse you Documents folder.

It may help if you were to post a screen shot of what you have?

no worries about double posting, it happens.

Libre is pretty easy to use. How did you used to open these files in Word? Can you tell us the exact steps?

For what it is worth, my Pop is 79 and has a pacemaker, and helped put men on the moon. You are light years beyond him in computer skills. Pretty sure he think Libre is a constellation.

OK - I opened a file with MS Office and then opened it as Libre and set it to always open as Libre - so now it is working as it should, I believe. I like this as much as MS to date. I will change the default under tools options etc to Office 97 .docx

I'll be back if there is an issue but thank you all very much for your patience and kind help.

    >>You are very kind. When physically incapacitated I tried to keep my mind active so learned Spanish and used it in the Caribbean. I do my imaging and clean installs. I can use the last DISM command where .WIM and .ESD are involved without converting and such skills. My errors exceed my accomplishments but keeping the mind going as long as you can is important to a quality of life. May your Dad enjoy a long healthy life. Perhaps a crossword puzzle would interest him. My wife is absolutely a non tech but truly enjoys her Chromebook which allows her to go as far or as little as she wants. One would be a nice gift to your Dad.
Consider, "I am the vine, you are the branches - we are all one."
Thank you again for your empathy and assistance.

    I'm back!!
All works well but my son who is a Google fan told me I would have issues with mobile.
I was told on my phone that I could have to have docs convert the message.
My son told me there is an app for this but I replied that it would be awkward to advice every recipient to install the app.
Back to Google docs unless there is a work around. I am trying .rtf to see what happens.
BTW, a MS email account also requires conversion unless you download the message to read it.
