I had him uninstall that via add/remove programs.

Also, his yahoo toolbar won't let me make any changes. I can uncheck the lock toolbar tab and make a change, then go back and relock but it goes back to how it was :(

Download and run CWshredder from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/
And remember to click "Fix" (Not "Scan only")

    Re-boot.....

    Download AdAware 6 181 from here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    Then......

Click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    Then.........

Go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

Then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu)

    Now re-boot...

    Then
Download Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    Re-boot again.

Then post a new HijackThis log to check what is left.

    ;)

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Ok, guys, he had to go on his way, so hopefully I covered everything. If not, I'll be talking to him later this afternoon to give further instructions on anything left :)

Hopefully he can reconnect his dial up DSL connection without any problems  I had to go thru my network to connect here :D

    Yep

even from Mexico, the eplugin one is the worse, it has settings for almost all countries and if your country isn't listed then it uses the international one at $x per minute

Thanks again. I just sent him an email. He actually lives across town and with the holiday traffic, it can take about an hour and a half to make it a few miles  Good weekend to stay home :D

I'll have him email me a new log if I can walk him thru the steps, and will post it later.

P.S. I see Mark had those listed above, but I overlooked them :(

Also, I have a question for anyone of you, running the 3 programs that $teve mentioned, and yes, I'm familiar with them and see you guys post them all the time (I don't do the standard maintenance I should do, but I'm pretty careful on my personal computer ;) ) If I'd unchecked everything Mark had posted first, than ran the other programs?

I'd already started running the other programs before I'd seen Mark's post, so I figured those three should have gotten most, if not all, of what Mark had posted?

Some of the folders he mentioned were already gone, all but one, the BLUE KEEP folder allowed me to delete in normal mode. Had to go to safe mode to zap that one.

as a general rule it's perfectly safe & beneficial to run adaware& spybot beore doing a HJT log

There used to be a problem with older versions of adaware damaging the winsock entries, when removing webhancer etc. That doesn't happen now and adaware/spybot will clear up most problems.

the major problem now is the cws hijackers which don't always appear in a hjt log and when they do, all the entries don't and can't be fixed by using hjt alone.

I don't recoomend running cwshredder now unless it's aknown cws hijacker that we know can be fixed by it as they have a habit of boobytrapping the new versions to fool us and can cause some damage to systems.

the same with L2M parasite, but that's another story

The LOP folder ( the blue keep one ) has to be removed in safe mode otherwise the hidden files in it restore it and refuse to let you fix it
