Basically, I'm only interested in the Media Center and the new Aero look.

My PC has the following specifications, are they enough to run Vista well? Don't really want any slowing down or anything like that just for it to be "normal" i.e. not loads of waiting around.

They are:

Athlon AMD 3200+ 64 (worth it getting the 64 bit edition?)
160gb HDD
1.5gb RAM
Nvidia 6600 256mb PCI-E graphics

Im only worried because I dont want to go spend £60-70 for a bit of software that could turn out useless! (Especially as it can only be installed once).

Any ideas, clarification would be much appreciated.

Also a quick edit... this would be the OEM version. The most I would do to my PC is change the graphics or add ram... I wouldn't do a new processor/motherboard as I would rather just go and buy a new computer! (But not thinking about that now for the time being)

Yupp... your computer is better than the recommended hardware specifications for Vista... it should work flawlessly.
