Write On CD's?

Could someone tell me on which side of a CD it is Ok to write on? I back up my Quicken to CD and want to write the date of the back up on the CD.

Imagine you have ejected the cd after it is written. You would write on the side thats facing up.

The only comment I have about writting on cd-r's is if you buy the cheap ones with no printing on them, do not use a SHARPIE pen. There is something in the ink that eats the film on the cd-r and it starts to peel the thin data film on your cd-r. Use a safe cd-r pen, or buy cd-r's that have printing on them on one side, this tends to protect the area which you can use a sharpie pen to write your notes on the disk.
