I found a file on my computer called wstrenderer.ax.. When I googled it, some places said it was a virus and some said it was necessary. Can you tell me what it is and if it can be deleted safely? Please be patient with me. I'm no computer genius.

The file is a WST Renderer Codec and should be located in C:\Windows\System32 if it is found anywhere else it might be suspicious.

You can run a scan on the file to be sure:

Go to one of the following online services that analyzes suspicious files:

In the "File to Scan" (Upload or Submit) box, click the "browse" button and locate the file.
Click "Open", then click the "Submit" button. If you get a message saying "File has already been analyzed", click Reanalyze or Scan again.
