On first bootup of the day, my computer reaches its normal desktop display, then, after a few seconds, .wuauclt starts its interrogation of my system. This uses 100% CPU capacity (per Task Manager), and every second or third day, it causes my computer to reboot, sometimes two or three times, before the computer stabilises. (Windows XP Pro SP2, AMD Athlon 64 3000 2.1GHz, 1.25MB RAM). I have auto-update set to "Notify me, but don't automatically download and install". Is there a cure for this annoyance?
