Greetings all, and thanks in advance for your patience...

xAds keep popping up when using IE and they are starting to annoy me greatly; AdAware and Spybot have been unsuccessful at killing the problem, so I've resorted to Hijack This... if someone would so kindly look at this. I fear the problem may be the last three O2 BHO entries, as the O17 entry when deleted only reappears when I run Explorer again. Being DLLs though, I thought I better enquire before deleting something.

    Here's the log:

Anyone? Or is xAds that difficult to remove from a system that the only way to really get rid of it is a complete sytem reinstall? :(

Please check you settings so that you are able to Show Hidden Files and Folders

    With ONLY HijackThis running
Place a check next to these entries:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = about:blank
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = iexplore
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O2 - BHO: LocalNRDObj Class - {00320615-B6C2-40A6-8F99-F1C52D674FAD} - C:\WINDOWS\localNRD.dll
    O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - D:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll
    O2 - BHO: NLS UrlCatcher Class - {AEECBFDA-12FA-4881-BDCE-8C3E1CE4B344} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvms.dll
    O2 - BHO: CB UrlCatcher Class - {CE188402-6EE7-4022-8868-AB25173A3E14} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscb.dll
    O2 - BHO: ADP UrlCatcher Class - {F4E04583-354E-4076-BE7D-ED6A80FD66DA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msbe.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ihcnkzapvzhqo] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hjfmia.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sagnt] C:\WINDOWS\sagnt.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\OldMSWord\Office\OSA.EXE <---Optional but Highly recommended to remove, not needed at start and huge resource hog

THEN WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED ,press "Fix".

    Reboot to safe mode (instructions)

Make sure you are set to Show Hidden Files and Folders and delete the following files/folders:-
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\hjfmia.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\sagnt.exe

Delete files/folder from the following directories (But not the directory itself, for example delete all files/folder IN temp; but not temp itself!)
    [*]C:\Windows\Temp\
    [*]C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
    [*]C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
[*]C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <---This will delete your internet cache--including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
    [*]C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
    [*]Empty your "Recycle Bin"

Then Reboot and post a fresh log back to this thread.

    Thanks for the reply;

I already killed those options meself in an attempt to solve the problem, and sadly it didn't work... so I pulled my finger out and did a full reinstall of Windows with SP 2. All is well now... and should remain well for at least 6 months :p
