I use Windows XP and a Speedtouch 330 modem on my desktop PC. Because I do not want to be connected to the Internet when I am not using the PC, I disconnect, ie. I right click on the Tiscali Broadband icon and disconnect. The ADSL light on the modem remains on, so my question is: Can my PC still be accessed via the phone line or am I completely disconnected from the Internet and free from attack?
Does anyone know the answer please?

You're safe - the MODEM remains on as your Broadband connection is "always on" but only as far as the MODEM once you've disconnected from it. You could turn off the MODEM but it would only slow things down waiting for it to find the signal when you need it next.
