Heres a fix i found that worked for me

Go to regedit and follow this:...

    +HKEY Current User
    +Software
    +Microsoft
    +Windows
    +Current Version
    +Explorer
    +CD Burning
    +Drives
    +Volume

In the right pane, click on Drive Type

If the current Drive Type DWord = 00003, change it to 00002. After the change your CDRW should show up properly.

also uninstall hot fix Q309691 for cd burners if it doesnt see a cd disk properly

:D hope it works for you...........Stan

    Hi Stan
    Thanks alot for your reply.
    However, I went into regedit,
    +HKEY Current User
    +Software
    +Microsoft
    +Windows
    +Current Version
    +Explorer
    +CD Burning
but after this there is only this
    Excluded FS

    NOT
    +Drives
    +Volume

    What do you think?
    Thanks
    Cheers libby:eek:
