I have an HP 7960. Originally this PC had Windows ME when purchased off the shelf. However about 4 years ago I purchased Windows XP Upgrade CD from Best Buy and took it to a computer store and had them install it for me. It's been running well since then, but has gotten sluggish. I'm thinking of doing a clean install using the same disks on the same pc expecting that this will speed up my PC.
I have the instructions on how to do a clean install and I plan to do it myself to save a few bucks. Not having ever done this before and being fearful that I've overlooked something I do have the following two questions:
1. Do I need to worry about "qualifying media?" Will it ask me for my ME CD and will the ME system recovery disks (that came with my PC) work?
2. When I get to the step to activate will there be any problem? After all it's the same CD on the same PC?
I have made backups of everything. I've checked the BIOS and know that booting off the CD Rom is the first choice. But if there's any other gotcha's I'd appreciate hearing them.
Thanks, All
