Hiya,

Alright I have a few question's I tried doing search's for them on random engines,Got answers,But most were contradictions or wrong I assume.

For about two weeks now I have had more then a few problems.

One problem is when I connect to the Internet My connection rate is 37,000 bps or higher. That's not the problem. However though my Internet connection icon is constantly lit up though I am not downloading or surfing any web-pages.I check it's status and the bytes that are going out are lot.except those coming in are few.

Another problem is my CPU usage is usually about 9%-11% on most day's but now it's at about 90% EVERYDAY.

I have ran spy-bot and hijack-this several times spy-bot detects spy-ware and erases them. But the problems still exist.

In Windows task manager I have spotted a new program running I havn't seen before called:

DLLHOST.EXE -Say's it was created on 9/4/03.

There's also svchost.exe there's usually 2 of those running but according to spy-bot there's 5 currently running at once?

There is another one but in capitols "SVCHOST.EXE"

Can anyone explain what these programs are? if they are harmful how do I get rid of them? And also how do I know what belongs and what doesn't-I simply look at the date of creation if it's before i got my computer I simply leave it running if it's recent I end it's process. (IF i don't know what it is.)

James:
I sw this problem being metioned in another post. There may be several things to consider. Are you running Zone Alarm along with Norton and have cable as your ISP? Since I have been running those programs (ZA & NAV) simultaneously, I have been noticing weird anomalies in my computers functioning.

go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

It is not unusual to have traffic coming and going even if you are not active or doing something. But I believe your problem is coming from DLLHOST.EXE running. It is a valid program, but it should run at start up and stop. If it continues to run and shows up in your Task Manager, that could very well be your CPU usage problem.

Here is a helpful thread that will explain better than I can and provides a solution.

Also, I would advise you to get a firewall to monitor and control what goes in and out of your computer. I really like Zone Alarm free or paid even better.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the quick replys ;)

And yes I have zonealarm.

I currently have it disabled though.

I'v had similiar problems before but they all were solved with programs like hijackthis and spybot.
