My computer takes ages to boot up, and every 2 or 3 boots, 'hangs' on either Outlook or Internet Explorer and closes me down.
I have checked my startup folder and tried to minimize things there on advise from looking through this forum. I downloaded Hijackthis and here is today's log if that helps someone tell me why I'm having so much trouble.

I run xp, on a Dimensions 9100 Intel PentiumD 830 (Dell), RAM 1GB, partitioned c/d hard drives - c for programs, d for data.
I use Norton 360 (have had lots of trouble with that) and in the last week they asked me to download the newest Version2..which I've done and the slowdown and 'hanging' seems to me to have increased, but I can't be sure if this is the cause. I run regular registry cleanups with RegCure - I usually just say FIX because I don't know how to discern what is what so leave it to them. I have noticed that often after that scan, I experience hangups. Is it connected? Don't know...because the hangups happen so regularly anyway.

Can anyone recommend anything else I can do to figure out why everything runs so slowly and apps hang up to often? Thanks
    Marilyns

Hi, i may not be able to fix your pc, but i can tell you that Reg Cure is probably the cause of your woes, registry cleaners/fixers are notorious for doing the opposite to what they claim, and it's likely that you have deleted/fixed something you should not have, i have no experience with 360 so i won't comment on that, but my advice is don't use reg cleaners/fixers unless you know exactly what your doing.

May I suggest dropping Nortons completely. I have experienced way to many problems with Nortons and their "heavy" software. From experience, I use Avast and have never had a problem with it. It is "light" and won't slow your PC down. Does it seem to run okay once you get to a desktop and everything loads?

I can't guarentee that this is your slow down but it may be a place to start.

Thanks...I have long suspected Norton slows things disproportionately. I'll have a look at Avast and others.

My load up is so slow, I wonder if I have to re-install Windows?

    Hello Marilyn

If your computer is slowing down specifically when you log in then perhaps there are some startup programs that are taking up the system resources which you can disable using RegCure.

    - Open RegCure and select the 'Manage Startup' button.

    - Review the list of programs that start up when you log in and disable any that you do not require.

    - If you do not recognize the entry then try placing it into a search page like Google to see what software it is related to.

Please be careful not to disable or remove important items such as your virus scanner or firewall. You may want to try only one or two at time and restart to ensure that there are no issues.

Please note that some programs will automatically re-enable themselves on startup so you may have to open the program and go into their settings in order to disable them on startup.

If you require further assistance with RegCure, please drop us a line at [email protected] and one of our highly skilled technical support staff will be delighted to assist you.

    Kindest Regards
    Laura

    Yes would be my answer.
Try undoing all changes that you let RegCure make.

Why not to use a reg cleaner..
