    Hi and thanks for responding - virus scans were good, along with bot/trojan scans. It seems that my cpu fan was not working the way it should have been and the cpu was starting to overheat....switched fans and it's working fine again....it's amazing...never thought of that.

    if your having the same problem, then check your fan for your cpu, clean any dust out of it. or add more fans(this never hurts)
    If you have any open slot covers, this will cause overheating as well. scan for viruses.

    what's the temp. of your CPU?

    I'm not sure if you are having the same problem as I was. You may want to start a new thread asking someone. You will receive more information that way...good luck

    If you post your startup list we may be able to spot something

    Please post your startup list by doing the following :-

    Please go here and download startuplist 1.51 :-

    http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/

    Download to any folder or your desktop
    Unzip the zipfile
    Double click the exe file
    go to Edit - select all - copy - and paste the results in a new post here

    hey I had the same problem the other night. I just purchased a new computer with Xp and out of the box it was freezing up. I contacted customer support and they had me reinstall Windows Xp using the Compaq system recovery. after 20 minutes it was working like it is supposed to work no problems now. Maybe this will give ya a choice or idea on how to fix it.

    Hi siccx_fox

    You have at least a BHO which could be causing the problem

    (no name) - C:\WINDOWS\System32\FOne.dll - {000000F1-34E3-4633-87C6-1AA7A44296DA}

    Download hijackthis

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det

    Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

    After the scan has finished the "scan" button will turn into a "save log" button

    save the log file and paste it here

    If you don't mind me jumping in, these two need to go as well:

    MovieNetworks = "C:\Program Files\MovieNetworks\MovieNetworks.exe" /H
    Windows Explorer Update Build 1142 = explorer32.exe

    The first is spyware, and the second is the W32.Kwbot Worm: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32kwbota.html

    And this BHO:

    Activater - (no file) - {1E1B2879-88FF-11D2-8D96-D7ACAC95951F}
