OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, 32 bit
    Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.80GHz, x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 1
    Processor Count: 1
    RAM: 1270 Mb

    Hard Drives: C: Total - 38154 MB, Free - 33883 MB;
    Motherboard: , , , TGSR43709337

    Hi

I have an eMachines T2240 and i have re formatted it and installed the audio drivers off the eMachines website but they do not work. After the installation it restarts and AVrack is installed but the sound still does not work. When i checked in device manager it still shows Multimedia Audio Controller in other devices and requires a driver to be installed.

Any help on where i can find the correct driver to install

    Liam

These are the specs for the eMachines T2240 desktop:

CPU : Intel Celeron Processor 2.20GHz (400MHz FSB)
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    Chipset : Intel 845GL chipset
    Memory : 128MB DDR (PC2100)
    Hard Drive : 40GB HDD
    Optical Drive : 48x Max. CD-Rom Drive; 3.5" 1.44MB FDD
Video : Intel Extreme Graphics 3D (integrated)
Sound : Realtek AC '97 Audio
    Network : 10/100Mbps built-in Ethernet

Right-click Intel 82845G graphics controller, then click Driver(tab).

What's listed for the driver version and date?

Right-click BUFFALO WLI2-PCI-G545 Wireless LAN Adapter, then click Driver(tab).

What's listed for the driver version and date?

Double-click Ethernet Controller and Multimedia Audio Controller to open their properties window, then click Details(tab), then select Hardware Id.

You'll see a string that has VEN_####&DEV_#### as part of it.

Advise what the characters are that follow VEN_ and DEV_.

Be careful not to make any typos.

    ---------------------------------------------------------

If you're not aware of it, that desktop supports up to 2048 MB(2 GB) of RAM.

You should seriously consider maxing it out.

It uses DDR PC2100 or DDR PC2700 or DDR PC3200 modules.

If you do decide to max it out, a matching set of modules is the best way to go in order to avoid incompatibility between modules.

Here is the most current driver for Windows XP for the Intel 82845G graphics controller:

    Driver Version: 6.14.10.4342

    Driver Date: 06/29/2005

Download and save it, close all open windows first, install it, then restart your computer.

Go into Control Panel - Display, then make whatever resolution, color palette, and refresh rate changes that you need.

    -------------------------------------------------

The driver for the BUFFALO WLI2-PCI-G545 Wireless LAN Adapter is current, so there's no need to update it.

    -------------------------------------------------

Vendor code 8086 and device code 1039 are assigned to the Intel 82562ET/EZ Fast Ethernet Controller.

Here is the most current driver for Windows XP for it.

    Driver Version: 15.8.1(8.0.47.0)

    Driver Date: 12/17/2010

Select the "PROWin32.exe" download link. Download and save it, close all open windows first, install it, then restart your computer.

    -------------------------------------------------

Vendor code 8086 and device code 24C5 are assigned to the Intel 82801 DB DBM/DA AC'97 Audio Controller.

Once you go on-line and do a scan at the Windows Updates site, it should bring up a sound driver in the drivers section for you to download and install and get the sound device enabled and working.

If it doesn't, let me know. The SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio driver(5.12.01.7000) should work with it.

Go here to download and save the 1.5 MB version of the Intel INF Update Utility 6.3.0.1007.

Just download and save it for now and don't do anything with it yet.

You may or may not need it.

You updated the driver for the Intel 82845G graphics controller and installed the driver for the Intel 82562ET/EZ ethernet controller?

The ethernet controller is working and you're able to go on-line?

What's currently listed in "Other Devices" in the Device Manager?

Go ahead and install the Intel INF Update Utility and then restart your computer.

Go here and click "Check your system for latest updates".

It's going to want to load an activeX control from System Requirements Labs, so allow it to do so.

If all goes well, the Intel site will display a driver for the sound device so you can download and install it.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

You're still not able to access the Windows Update/Microsoft Update site to do a custom scan?

You won't need it anymore, so go into Add Or Remove Programs and uninstall "System Requirements Labs".

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Start Internet Explorer, then click Tools - Windows Update.

    Does the site load?

If it does, do a custom scan.

When the scan is finished, go into the drivers section and see if a sound driver is available for download.
