My 'better half' uses Win XP Pro, v2002, SP3 and daily gets this error:

"System has recovered from a serious error ...."

    Error signature:
    BCCode: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2:BF81FAFF BCP3:B42E0C14
    BCP4: 00000000 OSVer:5_1_2600 SP:3_0 Product: 256_1

    The following files....
    C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERca69.dir00\Mini080510-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1User\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERca69.dir00\sysdata.xml

(the 'signatures' vary from day-day, but Product is the same)

[1] HOW can we identify this Product and [2] correct error/eliminate crashes?

It looks like you may have a viral infection. Perhaps one of the resident experts will chime in and help you. If nothing develops soon, repost this in the Virus/Malware forum.
    More Information Here.

If indeed this is an infection/malware, should it not have been detected by Norton 360 full scan?

You'd like to think so but AV programs are not flawless. The challenge for them is to keep up - getting ahead is out of the question. ;)

This gremlin is pretty new stuff as you can deduce from what MS says about it in the link I posted for you:

I'm surprised you haven't gotten any attention from some mod. I reported your thread for moving. Perhaps you should also do that. Click the red Report button and see if you get better service.
