I recently tried to change the file association for a program. I am new to xp. I followed the instructions in the help file, but when I right clicked and brought up the properties for the program, there was no ''change'' button on the general tab. can someone please help?

    Thank you!

    Hi there!

If you're running XP-Service Pack 1, then there's an option on add/remove programs to restore defaults.

    Look for where it says:
    "Set Program Access Defaults"
you should see what you're looking for in there!

If it's something that won't convert back, try System Restore and roll the system back to before you made the change!

    Good Luck!

Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types.

Pick the file extension of your choice. You'll find a "change" button allowing you to browse to the application you'd like to open that file type by default.

If you right clicked on the executable for the program there would be no change button. Find a file which this program creates and right click on it to change the file association. For example, Notepad >> find a text file. Not notepad.exe.

    MilkChoc,

You're welcome. With a name like MilkChoc, I had to answer. How did you escape the Easter Bunny's clutches yesterday?
