Just ran updated Ad Aware 6 repeatedly, using your instructions and removing everything it found; Spybot Search and Destroy ran with January data files. (Can't get it to update right now.) See anything wrong here? User has XP Home pc with McAfee. Problems started after running a McAfee update. Takes a long time to boot up; gets a CManager "Application Fatal Error: Unable to Connecto to the CCD Process." and a "Error Connecting to Shell" error sometimes. Thanks in advance.

Betsy,

Close your browser and check the following items in HJT and click FIX. Reboot.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Msdmxm] c:\windows\system32\msdmxm.exe /noconnect

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MNPol] c:\windows\system32\mnpol.exe /nocomm

The first is a premium dialer I'm sure you don't want. I'm not sure what the second one is, but it looks suspicious.

After rebooting, find and delete this file:

c:\windows\system32\msdmxm.exe /noconnect

You can do the same for the second file once you know it was nothing you need.

(If it is something you need, HJT has a restore option to restore any entry removed)

:)
