I was trying to install an adaptec pci SCSI card for an old scanner onto a brand new HP A210N pavilion for a friend and XP finds the card and says it's installing new hardware and then locks up. I can't find any known issues on the hp site and nothing in the bios seems to indicate any problems. What do you think? I have never had a problem installing any kind of PCI card in XP. Thanks.

How old is the SCSI card? Have you tried a different PCI slot?

I'm guessing the SCSI card is from like 1997 or so. Yes, I tried a different slot but not every slot.

May as well give them all a shot ;)

I have an older Adaptec 1540, it has dip switches on it.

    Have you checked that too?

Mine is running fine on 98 and XP.

Check to make sure the SCSI BIOS isn't trying to boot from a device connected to it if you are using an IDE drive as a boot drive.
