There were three teenage girls using this computer when the problem started. I could not determine what they did to make this machine crawl to a stop. It did have something to do with music.
One of them wanted to listen to music from her Phillips GoGear USB Devise.
Another said she knew how to do it, but then later said she couldn't get it to work.
Later daughter #3 was listening to music on her Comcast home page and it locked up.
I had to hold the power button until it powered down.
I rebooted and it starts to load as normal, but the icons (about half) on the desktop have become generic. This so far is not all that slow but, it starts to drag out to 3-5 min. loading the icons in the tray and the START button stays blue for a while and the mouse pointer is an hour glass as it takes up to 5 min to load the McAfee and other items.
Once it appears to be normal you can click on the start button and it slowly displays the contents but it will not open the control panel as well as any other programs It can turn off the computer but it may take a long time for the action to complete.
If you try to open anything of size it works at it for a long time and most of the time it can't continue.
After trying to reboot about 20 times it finally let me run a copy of HighJackThis in the SAFE Mode.

I'm sending this "HighJack This log" to see if there is a problem here first:
