    Hi all,

I'm having a spot of bother with my small-scale LAN at home:

The LAN consists of four machines (including one laptop, which isn't always connected); three of the machines are running XP Pro and the other XP Home. They all connect to a hub.

The XP Home machine complains that it cannot see the workgroup list for the other machines; I have checked:

    1) All machines are part of the same workgroup and have unique names within.
    2) All machines can ping each other.
    3) All machines have file/print sharing along with TCP/IP enabled. The QOS Packet Scheduler is also present.
    4) I have run the Network Setup Wizard on each machine

Has anyone had a similar problem ?
Can anyone think of anything else to check ?

    Any replies appreciated.

    Best regards

First off, make sure that the machine(s) that the XP-Home machine is trying to connect to have a user account established with a name/password that matches the one used on the XP-Home machine.

If it still fails to connect, my suggestion is install NETBEUI on all of the machines. Here's a direct link to the files: http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/xp_netbeui.zip

    Thanks for your response,

The NETBEUI installation seems to have worked.

The XP Home machine is a little slow showing the workgroup computers but the access to the shares/printer work fine.

I did try the username fix beforehand, but it yielded no result.

We may be able to help with the slow XP browse.

Delete the following key from the Registry (after saving)

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\
    NameSpace\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

Apparently 2K or XP spends ages looking for "scheduled tasks" on other computers when you browse them thru' Network Neighborhood.
