Yesterday I finally downloaded and installed SP3. It seems to be working well, but nevertheless despite my Power Options telling the monitor to turn off after 20 minutes, it stays on forever.

This has never haoppened pre SP3.

Does anybody know how to get the Power Options working again please?

    Thanks
    Geoff

As I said, my Power Options in Control Panel are set ok (unchanged), but my monitor now never switches off. EG When I came home from work today (after 12 hours) my monitor was still bright, asking me for my password.

I want it to go dark after 20 minutes as requested.

Sorry, I don't follow you. When logged in I go to Control Panel to set my Power Options. They are ok. I get out of Control Panel and leave my Desktop showing.

I go away and leave my computer idle for 12 hours and the monitor screen has not gone dark. That is the problem. I'm not saving any power. :-(

    Thanks for your advice Havecoolth.

I have now finally tested both of your suggestions, but unfortunately I'm still stuck with the problem.

It must be something unusual causing it.
