If I want to play any game it will occasionally freeze after slowing down, also watching films it does the same and even listening to music on any player it will slow down to a crawl but usually pick up if you wiggle the mouse about.I have enclosed "HiJack This" info if it is of any help.I have brought this problem up on many forums and have never had any luck so time to try the experts. All help is much appreciated.

The following is a list of items I have replaced since the problem started :-

Motherboard.
Soundcard.
Powerpack.
Added 256 sdram and checked original 512 sdram with memtest.
Graphics card

After all this I still get the same problem and I am at a total loss for ideas.
When playing games it will occasionally freeze and the cpu light will become solid instead of flashing,I then have to wait for a few minuites until it resumes as normal and I can play on.If watching a film it will slow down and eventually freeze? The only way out of this is to restart the program and carry on with the film until it freezes again, usually 10/15 mins.
When listening to music on any player it will slow right down after a few minuites and keep doing it every other minuite, this can be improved by moving the mouse about but alas as soon as you stop it slows down again.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a thought... Music, video and gaming could all be adversely affected by an old/corrupt DirectX install. What version are you running? Since you're running XP Pro SP1, it sounds like your DX version should be up-to-date. However, something may be amiss with your DX install.

First, I'd try testing the DX config with DXDiag, all affected modules. Next, I'd consider reinstalling the latest DX version available.

You may also want to run Windows Update (if you haven't done so lately). It may pick out some other things that might contribute to your slowdowns.

Another freezing problem that you might have is a bad hotfix. I had this same problem. I went through all of the hotfixes on my computer removing each one, and then multiple ones until I found an end to the freezing. I found that patch KB824146 is the cause. My computer has not frozen since I removed this patch.

To remove the patch just follow these steps:
Go to Start, Control Panel
Go to Add or Remove Programs
Scroll Down until you find the patch you wish to remove. Click on it and click on Remove.
It will prompt you to restart your computer.
I hope this will work for you!

Thanks sammo I will certainly check this out.I have 29 hotfixes listed at the moment so it could be fun.I get a warning that over 30 of my programs MAY not work correctly if I remove KB824146 and wondered if you found anything not working after you removed it.Thanks again.:)
DirectX version is 9.0B and I have DXDiag file if it will be of any help to people as it is 68.7K I did not display here but can send to anyone who thinks it may be usefull as it has everything in it except my inside leg measurement.

Well it's all ok now everything is sweet and back to normal.

First I overlaid XP and when it booted it did not find my Aureon soundcard and was running very smooth so I went into Bios and turned on the AC97 onboard sound instead of re-installing the Aureon.
It has since found the Aureon but I have left it using the AC97 in program manager audio/voice.It used to take 5mins to move a 450meg mpeg file from one folder to another but now does it in 10 secs.
The system did reboot itself a few times quoting "RPC" so I re-downloaded the KB824146 patch and it seems to have stopped the rebooting so fingers crossed.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions
