I'm trying to re-install Vista Business on my laptop, but before I do that, I want to try something else:

Is it possible to install XP Pro over XP Media Center Ed. without having to reformat? My reason for asking is that Vista Business can be installed over XP Pro without having to clean the hard drive, but Vista Business cannot be installed over Media Center Ed. without erasing the hard drive.

I believe the disk is the full install for XP Pro; I got it from one of my programming classes up at college through the Microsoft student program.

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry to bump this thread up, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Actually it does not matter what Vista can do or not the fact of the matter is that using a full install disk of Wind XP to over write Windows media is not a good thing to do. What should actually be done is to back up all of the data to another media like CD-R's, DVD or thumb dive and then format the drive and install what ever OS that you want. End result = Less work, less pain in the you know where and an operating system that works.
