I am using XP Pro, which I recently upgraded from XP Home and there is something wrong with audio playback. When I play MP3 or WAV files the sound is choppy and stutters. It happens in winamp, cubase, windows media player and any other audio application I have.
It seems that the stuttering (which can be quite severe and pronounced) is in sync with the light on the hard drive, so I assume that the problem is somehow related to this. I have two drives, one master and one slave and the problem hapens regardless of which drive the file is on.
In hardware manager the drives are set to DMA if available, but DMA is apparently not available as they have set themselves to PIO.
Audio seems to play fine from cd.
I am a professional musician trying to learn to use computers for writing and arranging. So, audio problems are somewhat serious to me. I would really appreciate some help with this one.
Thanks in advance,
